DIRECTORATE OF ADMISSIONS REVISED NOTIFICATION FOR ENTRANCE EXAMINATION / DIRECT ADMISSION TO Ph.D PROGRAMME – 2021

Ref: Ph.D 2021 Notification No. 204384/DOA-ASST-5/2020/Admn dated 26.04.2021.

 In continuation to the Ph.D 2021 Notification dated 26.04.2021 referred above, applications are invited from eligible candidates including candidates exempted from entrance test, for admission to the Ph.D programme under the streams (1) Full-time and (2) Part-time under the faculties of Science, Language & Literature, Humanities, Commerce, Education, Music, Mass Communication & Journalism and Social Work of this University (Candidates should verify both main and supplementary vacancy list published in www.cuonline.ac.in, before proceeding for Online Registration). Candidates who have already applied for Ph.D 2021 admission, as per the notification dated 26.04.2021 referred above, need not apply again for the already applied streams.

  1. All PG/M.Phil result awaiting students are permitted to apply online and appear for the Ph.D 2021 entrance examination (Ref: U.O.No. 5780/2021/Admn dated 31.05.2021).
  2. Result awaiting PG/ M.Phil students who gets included in the Ph.D 2021 short list after completing the online registration and qualifying entrance examinations (if any) shall prove their eligibility as per the Ph.D notification and submit all the relevant documents (including qualifying certificates) within 60 days after the last date of reporting time provided during the second stage admission process (Ref: U.O.No. 6218/2021/Admn dated 21.06.2021).
  3. Last date for Ph.D online registration is extended upto 30.06.2021.
  4. All other clauses mentioned in the Ph.D 2021 notification dated 26.04.2021 referred above remains the same.
  5. Main and supplementary vacancy position in different subjects/disciplines has been published in www.cuonline.ac.in. For more details, go through the clauses in the Ph.D 2021 notification dated 26.04.2021. Defective applications will summarily be rejected. Eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. programme

  • Candidates for admission to the Ph.D. programme shall have a Masters degree in education or a degree recognized as equivalent to the Masters degree of the University of Calicut, with at least grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or at least 55% marks in aggregate in the mark system or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
  •  A relaxation of 10% of marks, from 55% to 45%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed to candidates belonging to SC/ST category. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed to those belonging to OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decisions of the University/State Government from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s degree prior to 19 th September, 1991.
  • Eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of m a r k s / g r a d e s t o the categories as mentioned in Clause 2.2 in these Regulations are permissible based only on the qualifying marks exclusive of the grace mark procedures.
  •  Candidates who have passed the M.Phil. Degree programme with a minimum of grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph.D. Degree in the same institution. A relaxation of 10% of marks, from 55% to 45%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed to candidates belonging to SC/ST category. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, shall be allowed to those belonging to OBC (non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled and other categories of candidates, as decided by the State government/University from time to time.
  •  A candidate whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the same institution
  •  Candidates possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme.
  •  Persons working in National Laboratories- Institutes/Universities/Government Organization nominated/ sponsored by the respective employer; Teachers of the University / Government or Aided Colleges affiliated to the University/ Govt. or Aided Secondary and Higher Secondary School within the geographical jurisdiction of the University and holding a permanent position there shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme, provided they satisfy the conditions of Clause

Full-time / Part-time Research:

 

  • Registration may be granted to all resident scholars on full time basis and to employed persons on part-time basis.
  1. Teachers of the University / Government or Aided Colleges affiliated to the University/ Govt. or Aided Secondary and Higher Secondary School within the geographical jurisdiction of the University/Employees of the University and holding a permanent position there and are eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme satisfying the conditions of Clause (2.1) may be granted part-time registration.

 

  1. A full-time registration may be converted to part-time, after the completion of one year, or when the candidate declared successfully completed the course work.

 

 4 After three years in full-time, if the candidate wishes to convert the registration into part-time, the period of registration shall be reckoned with that of full-time registration.

 

 

 Duration of the Programme:

 

 Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.

  Extension beyond the above limits, in exceptional circumstances, may be permitted by the ViceChancellor for the completion of the research work and submission of thesis

    Women candidates and candidates with disability of more than 40% may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration. In addition, women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D. for a period up to 240 days

  Procedure for Admission :

     Candidates for Ph.D. programme shall be granted registration through an entrance test conducted by the University.

 The following categories of candidates are exempted from the entrance test for registration to Ph.D. Degree:

 .1 Candidates who qualify UGC-NET/JRF, UGC-CSIR-NET/JRF, SLET, GATE and research fellowships of central and state Government departments/ agencies as approved by the University, as the case may be

 2 Full time regular teachers of the University departments/Govt. or Aided Colleges affiliated to the University of Calicut and teachers with FDP/QIP or similar fellowships

  3 Foreign nationals who are otherwise eligible for admission.

4 Full-time fellows, who have been selected on the basis of a written Test and interview, working in a research project under the investigation of a research guide of the University
